I have been making this my “BOOCOUP FISH” my bbm status, my Whatsapp status, as well as my facebook status for a while and my peeps must have been thinking …okay this is one of Scott’s craaaazy thoughts again.

Quite right.but there is method to my madness.

Boocoup Fish Street Art project

The first of the Fish was made on 4 October 2011 after much time devoted to the study of street art, paper toy culture, hip hop ideology.

After using and spraying the first coat I left the fish outside on the balcony in Kloof.I use a number of techniques to finish it tho…stuff I dont really feel like revealing.

It was drizzling and I allowed the water to drop onto the fish and modify the paintjob to make the ish seem more aquatic-ish.

BOO-COUP-FISH is a refugee statement.

BOO-COUP-FISH is about the following things

BOO -an action or exclamation which gives fright.

COUP - an act of revolt against the norm.

FISH - slang for someone who is new in prison.Also a creature which inhabits bodies of water.

BOO-COUP-FISH is also a homonym for “beaucoup fish” which refers to the multitude of fish which will be left in urban environments.

When one moves house or goes to a new area ,whether by force or voluntarily, one is unsettled by the new environment.

One has to establish new routines, habits in order to survive.

(new transport routes,schools,shops)

So initially one will act as the proverb goes, “like a fish out of water”.

This is probably the safest way for me to express myself with my art without sounding like a naggin little girl but ja, here’s to many more fishies.
